Chimpanzees


All chimps belong to a big group of animals called Primates.

Bodies
Adult chimp faces are darker than the babies and juveniles.

Their upper back muscles are 10 times stronger than people so they can swing in the trees.

They can also travel on the ground. Most chimpanzees like to walk on their knuckles and use their strong arms.

Chimps can weigh up to 175 pounds.

They can live for 45-50 years.



Habitat
Chimpanzee live in the rain forest.

Chimpanzees eat insects, nuts, and leaves.

Taking Care of Each Other
A group of chimps is called a community.

All chimpanzees are social. Social means they like to be with other chimps.

They wrestle and chase each other and tickle each other.

They can make loud noises.

The word preening means 'to clean'. Chimps do this when they pick bugs off of each other.
